Our new railway around the Leamington Domain has the official go-ahead ● End of year - Christmas celebration ● Members attend the open day at Tauranga
Our new railway around the Leamington Domain has the official go-aheadOn Monday 21st November I got the news from Jane at Waipa District Council that DOC has finally approved our lease and it only needed to be signed and sealed. I arranged with her for a group of us to meet Rob (who looks after the tree’s) herself and Simon from the cricket club to meet at the Leamington Domain to walk around so we could all talk about the placement of our track. The Council have found another park for the senior cricketer’s to have another field this leaving the junior’s to have a field at the Domain. This will happen next season, so we agreed to work in together until this happens. The good thing about this is that Simon agreed that they did not need as much ground for their field as first discussed. The council have requested that we not do anything at the Domain until they have notified the local residents via the local newspapers – they hope this happens next week. They also requested that we have the mayor or deputy mayor turn the first sod and have the newspaper there, so the locals then know we are starting the track work. Our keen working bee member’s will then be able to peg the track layout on Wednesday 16th November (if all goes to plan) for the Council to inspect and approve. Simon will also inspect this with them to ensure the junior cricketers have enough field to play on. Jane is getting in touch with the mayor hopefully today to arrange for him or his deputy to turn the first sod on Wednesday 23rd. This way our busy workers and any one who is available who would like to be there to witness this, can. The guys have decided to start with the steaming bays 1st. She is hoping to let me know by Tuesday 8th if they are able to attend – so I will keep you informed via our website. Words by Romoana Collins

End of year - Christmas celebrationThe committee has decided that seem we are a new club trying to get our track up and running that we can not afford much. So we have decided to hold a BBQ lunch at the Leamington Domain on Saturday 17th December, everyone supplying their own food and drinks. We would really like for you to join us, so mark this date on your calendar. Words by Romoana Collins
